Rubrik was founded in Palo Alto in 2014 by Bipul Sinha, Arvind Jain, Soham Mazumdar, and Arvind Nithrakashyap. The company went public on the NYSE under the ticker RBRK in April 2024, raising approximately $752 million in its IPO. Rubrik employs over 3,000 people globally. Its core offering is a zero-trust data security and backup platform. A major event for its Israeli presence was the August 2023 acquisition of Laminar, an Israeli Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) startup, in a deal estimated between $200 million and $250 million.

Rubrik provides a cloud data management and ransomware recovery platform. The software solves backup and data security challenges across hybrid and multi-cloud environments (SaaS, public cloud, and on-premises), ensuring that organizations can recover their operations following cyberattacks without paying ransoms. The platform is sold primarily to enterprise IT and security teams, integrating capabilities for discovering and classifying sensitive data.

Rubrik competes directly with legacy backup vendors such as Commvault and Veeam, as well as modern data management peers like Cohesity. Rather than positioning itself purely as a backup vendor, Rubrik markets its platform specifically around Data Security and cyber resilience, focusing on defending backups against ransomware encryption and exfiltration. A notable strategic partnership exists with Microsoft, which made an equity investment in Rubrik prior to its IPO and closely integrates Rubrik's solutions within Microsoft Azure.

Rubrik's physical presence in Israel was established entirely through its acquisition of Laminar in late 2023. Operating out of Tel Aviv, the R&D center is built on the team originally founded by Amit Shaked and Moran Korngold. This site now serves as the core engineering group for Rubrik's DSPM capabilities, focusing on cloud data discovery and classification. The Israeli office houses roughly 100 employees, with local hiring heavily focused on R&D functions including backend engineering, security research, and product management.
