Payoneer

Payoneer was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in New York City. The company operates a cross-border payments platform that enables businesses and freelancers to send and receive funds across currencies and countries. Payoneer went public on NASDAQ under the ticker PAYO in June 2021 via a SPAC merger with FTIV (Foley Trasimene Acquisition Corp II).

Payoneer's primary product is a global payment platform targeting small and medium-sized businesses, online sellers, freelancers, and marketplace participants. It solves the problem of receiving payments from international clients and marketplaces — particularly for sellers on platforms such as Amazon, Airbnb, Upwork, and Fiverr — by providing local receiving accounts in multiple currencies and enabling withdrawals to local bank accounts. The platform is primarily self-serve and is widely used in emerging markets where access to traditional cross-border banking is limited.

Payoneer competes directly with Wise (formerly TransferWise) in the SMB cross-border payments space, and faces competition from Stripe and PayPal for marketplace and freelancer payment flows. Payoneer's positioning has historically been strongest in serving marketplace sellers and gig-economy workers in markets such as China, Israel, Ukraine, and Bangladesh, segments where Wise and Stripe have had less penetration.

Payoneer has a significant presence in Israel, where the company was co-founded and maintains R&D and operational functions. The Israeli operation is one of the company's key engineering and product hubs. Payoneer has a long history in the Israeli tech ecosystem and is well known as an employer in the Tel Aviv area.
