Fireblocks

Fireblocks was founded in 2018 by Michael Shaulov, Idan Ofrat, and Pavel Berengoltz. Shaulov and Berengoltz previously founded Lacoon Mobile Security, which was acquired by Check Point in 2015. The company is headquartered in New York, with its primary R&D center located in Tel Aviv.

The company operates privately. In January 2022, it raised a $550 million Series E funding round, bringing its valuation to $8 billion and total funding to over $1 billion. Institutional investors include Sequoia Capital, Coatue, and Spark Capital, alongside strategic backing from BNY Mellon.

Fireblocks provides a secure infrastructure platform for moving, storing, and issuing digital assets. The core technology relies on Multi-Party Computation (MPC-CMP) and hardware isolation using Intel SGX. This architecture splits private keys across multiple servers, eliminating single points of failure during cryptocurrency transactions.

The platform serves institutional clients, including banks, exchanges, OTC desks, and hedge funds. Publicly named customers include BNY Mellon, Revolut, and eToro.

The primary offering includes the Fireblocks Vault for custody, the Fireblocks Network for direct peer-to-peer settlement between institutions, and a Tokenization engine for issuing digital securities.

In 2022, Fireblocks acquired First Digital to expand its crypto payment capabilities. In late 2023, the company acquired BlockFold, a smart contract development firm, to enhance its tokenization services for financial institutions.

The Tel Aviv office is the engineering hub, housing the majority of the company's R&D, cryptography, and product teams.
