About the role
At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.
Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.
We’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries - from the bottom of the oceans to the depths of space and cyberspace - and from manufacturing to engineering, we work together to build a future we can all trust.
Imperva, a Thales company, is a globally recognized cybersecurity leader, dedicated to securing data and applications across diverse environments. Our cutting-edge solutions empower organizations to safeguard their most critical assets, ensuring robust protection against emerging threats.
We’re proud to be recognized as one of Israel’s Top 50 High-Tech Companies to Work For in 2025 (Dun & Bradstreet) and offer a flexible hybrid work model requiring on-site presence one day per week in Rehovot and one day per week in Tel Aviv.
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Software Engineering Team Leader to join our Elastic WAF group — the group behind Imperva’s most strategic and modern next-generation WAF product lines within the AppSec organization.
The Foundation team builds the core infrastructure that powers these products. The team is responsible for developing the foundations of new Cloud-Native and SaaS WAF solutions, designed for simple, fast, and DevOps-friendly onboarding and installation. These products deliver best-of-breed security through a modern, scalable architecture and seamless operational experience.
If you’re passionate about leading talented engineers, designing scalable systems, and shaping the architecture of cutting-edge security products, we’d love to meet you.
Key Responsibility:
• Lead a team of 4 skilled developers focused on building and maintaining core components, shared services, and developer tooling.
• Lead distributed system design decisions and continuously improve system performance, maintainability, and technical standards.
• Design and evolve scalable, multi-tenant SaaS architecture and cloud-native platform services (microservices, APIs, event-driven systems).
• Be hands-on with architecture and development in Java, Go, and Kubernetes.
• Drive cross-team initiatives that improve development efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
• Act as a mentor and coach to help team members grow professionally and technically.
• Collaborate with engineering leads and product stakeholders to set technical direction and priorities.
• Champion innovation, transparency, and a strong engineering culture.
• Ensure reliability and operational excellence, implementing observability (metrics/logs/tracing) and strong incident response practices.
7+ years of backend development experience, with deep knowledge in Java and modern infrastructure (Kubernetes preferred).
Proven 3+ years of leadership experience, including managing or mentoring other developers.
Strong system design and architecture skills with the ability to make technical decisions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially across teams.
Wide technical view across systems, infrastructure, and application layers.
Passion for improving developer experience and building reusable components.
Adaptability — comfortable working in dynamic environments and leading through change.
Strong organizational skills, including sprint planning, progress tracking, and cross-team coordination.
Problem-solving orientation — proactively identifies risks and dependencies and manages them effectively.
Thales, champions inclusion and we believe diversity strengthens the fabric of our culture. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, colour, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.
