About the role

Backend Team Leader – CoolAutomation CoolAutomation, a global leader in HVAC IoT solutions, is seeking a Backend Team Leader to lead and develop a team of backend engineers while building and scaling cloud services that connect, monitor, and optimize HVAC systems worldwide. You’ll lead a talented team of Backend developers, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure the reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of our backend services. You’ll work hands-on with distributed systems that process large-scale telemetry data, enable smart automation, and power advanced analytics.

What you'll do

Lead and mentor a team of 2–4 backend developers.
Report directly to the VP of R&D.
Develop, maintain, and optimize backend services in Node.js.
Define and contribute to backend architecture, technical standards, and best practices.

Work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis to design efficient data flows and models.

Integrate and scale services within AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, SQS/SNS).

Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and data teams to deliver high-quality APIs and microservices.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following best practices.

Contribute to system monitoring, logging, reliability, and performance optimization using Elastic Stack and CloudWatch.

What We’re Looking For

3+ years of experience leading a Backend development team, combined with strong hands-on development experience.

Solid knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, and RESTful API design.

Experience with PostgreSQL or MongoDB, and familiarity with Redis caching.

Understanding of cloud architecture and scalable service design.

Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in distributed environments.

Hands-on approach with the ability to balance technical leadership, development, and team mentoring.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.

Nice to have

Experience with ClickHouse or other analytical databases.
Familiarity with IoT, device telemetry, or message queues (SQS/SNS).
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
