Description
3D Technical Artist at Walmart Global Tech Israel
Position Summary
This position is responsible for creating high-end, photorealistic 3D assets that seamlessly blend artistic detail with technical precision. Utilizing an expert grasp of PBR workflows, the role produces hyper-realistic optimized specifically for Virtual Try-On (VTO) and Augmented Reality (AR) experiences. To drive the scalable mass production of these assets, this position architects advanced procedural and AI-augmented workflows. Additionally, the role serves as a hands-on technical problem-solver, tackling complex pipeline tasks and optimizing performance to ensure highly efficient, top-tier asset generation.
Essential Function
Drive Commercial Asset Production: Creation of highly polished, photorealistic 3D product assets ensuring PBR standards for consumer-facing realism.
Architect Procedural Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain scalable procedural generation systems using Houdini or Blender Geometry Nodes to automate repetitive modeling and texturing tasks, driving the mass production of assets.
Innovate with Gen AI & Next-Gen Workflows: Actively research, test, and integrate Generative AI (Gen AI) models and cutting-edge technological approaches to accelerate production timelines, generate variations, and enhance overall pipeline efficiency.
Optimize for Real-Time VTO & AR: Format, convert, and rigorously profile 3D assets to meet the strict performance constraints, draw-call limits, and technical specifications required for seamless Virtual Try-On and Augmented Reality experiences.
Develop Custom Tools & Interoperability: Write custom scripts (e.g., Python, VEX) and establish standardized data pipelines (such as USD or glTF workflows) to bridge software gaps, eliminate bottlenecks, and empower the art team with custom-tailored tools.
Profile, Debug, and Troubleshoot: Act as the ultimate technical problem-solver by profiling real-time asset performance, optimizing complex material shaders, and resolving critical pipeline issues without degrading visual fidelity.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Digital Media, 3D Animation, Game Art, Technical Art, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), or a closely related technical/artistic field.
Production Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in high-end 3D asset creation, heavily focused on technical art, pipeline development, and workflow automation.
Core 3D Mastery: Advanced proficiency in modeling and digital sculpting with a strong emphasis on Blender and ZBrush (though agility in Maya or Cinema 4D is always welcome).
Procedural Architecture: A proven track record of building scalable, procedural asset pipelines using Blender Geometry Nodes or SideFX Houdini to drive mass production.
Texturing & Surfacing: 4+ years of deep expertise using the Substance 3D Suite (Painter and Designer), demonstrating a flawless command of PBR material authoring for commercial products.
Real-Time Optimization: Exceptional knowledge of the technical constraints required for AR, VR, and Virtual Try-On (VTO) platforms, including topology optimization, texture packing, and glTF/USD delivery.
Technical Mentorship: 2+ years of experience stepping up as a technical guide—mentoring fellow artists, writing comprehensive documentation, and unblocking the art department through custom tools or workflows.
Scripting Chops: Proficiency in Python for developing custom scripts, DCC plugins, and pipeline automation tools (Nice to have).
