SodaStream

SodaStream is an Israeli company in the home carbonation appliance market. Its core product is a countertop device that lets consumers carbonate tap water at home using a reusable CO₂ cylinder and refillable plastic bottles. PepsiCo acquired SodaStream in 2018 for approximately $3.2 billion, and the company has since operated as a PepsiCo subsidiary.

SodaStream sells home carbonation machines directly to consumers (B2C), alongside flavoring syrups and concentrates that generate recurring revenue after the initial hardware purchase. The business model is partly razor-and-blade: the machine drives ongoing sales of CO₂ refills and flavor additives. The company has positioned its products as an environmentally friendlier alternative to single-use plastic bottles.

SodaStream's main production facility is located in Kiryat Gat. The plant was established after the company relocated manufacturing from its previous facility, which had been situated in the West Bank — a move that received extensive press coverage. Daniel Birnbaum served as CEO and was the company's most prominent public figure in the years leading up to the PepsiCo acquisition.
