Snowflake was founded in 2012 by Benoit Dageville, Thierry Cruanes, and Marcin Zukowski. The company is headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, and is publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker SNOW. Its IPO in September 2020 was the largest software IPO in history at the time, with shares more than doubling on the first day of trading. The core product is a cloud-based data warehousing and analytics platform built to run across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud simultaneously.

Snowflake's primary product is its Cloud Data Platform, which separates compute from storage, allowing customers to scale each independently and pay only for what they use. Snowflake's cross-cloud portability — running natively on AWS, Azure, and GCP — is a differentiator relative to the hyperscaler-owned alternatives. Databricks has increasingly positioned itself as a direct alternative to Snowflake for unified analytics and AI workloads, making that rivalry one of the more closely watched in the data infrastructure market. Snowflake has maintained engineering and R&D presence in Israel, with offices in Tel Aviv. The Israel team has historically focused on R&D functions. Snowflake has hired engineering talent in Israel, and the office has been part of the company's broader international R&D footprint, though detailed headcount figures for the Israel site are not publicly confirmed.
