Moovit was founded in 2012 by Nir Erez, Roy Bick, and Yaron Evron, and is headquartered in Ness Ziona, Israel. The company builds a public-transit navigation app — a crowdsourced, real-time journey-planning platform that aggregates schedules, live vehicle positions, and user-reported alerts for buses, trains, subways, and other public transit modes. Intel Corporation acquired Moovit in 2020 for a reported $900 million, integrating it into Intel's Mobileye unit as part of a broader autonomous-vehicle and mobility strategy.

Moovit's primary product is a consumer-facing transit app available on iOS and Android that provides door-to-door routing using public transit. On the B2B side, Moovit sells its Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform — branded as Moovit MaaS — to transit agencies and municipalities, enabling cities to integrate multiple mobility services (public transit, bike-share, ride-hail) into a single trip-planning interface. The underlying asset is a large proprietary dataset of global transit feeds, crowdsourced real-time data, and anonymized rider behavior, covering transit networks in a reported 112 countries.

The Moovit app is the flagship consumer product, providing step-by-step public transit navigation with real-time disruption alerts. Moovit MaaS is the enterprise-facing platform sold to transit authorities and city governments. The company also publishes the Moovit Public Transit Index, an annual report on urban mobility trends derived from its anonymized ridership data, which has been cited in urban-planning and transportation research.

Moovit competes directly with Google Maps in the public-transit navigation space, and to a lesser degree with Citymapper, which focuses on dense urban transit markets. Google Maps has the advantage of broader integration within the Android ecosystem, while Moovit historically differentiated on depth of local transit data and crowdsourced real-time updates.
