In 2021, Digital Turbine acquired AdColony and Fyber, two video and in-app advertising platforms that expanded the company's activity beyond app distribution into programmatic advertising. These acquisitions shifted the company's profile from a pure-play app distributor into a broader mobile advertising platform.

Digital Turbine competes in a crowded market against mobile advertising platforms including IronSource (subsequently acquired by Unity) and AppLovin. Between 2022 and 2024 the company experienced a significant decline in revenue and share price, accompanied by restructuring efforts and management changes. The rapid growth that characterized the 2021 acquisition period did not persist.
