BMC Software

BMC Software is an American enterprise software company founded in 1980 in Houston, Texas, by Scott Boulette, John J. Moores, and Dan Cloer. The company specializes in IT service management (ITSM), IT operations management, and mainframe computing software. It was taken private in 2013 by Bain Capital and Golden Gate Capital, and subsequently acquired by KKR in 2018 for an estimated $8.5 billion. Globally, the company employs approximately 6,000 people.

The company's primary product lines include BMC Helix, a cloud-based ITSM and ITOM platform, and Control-M, a workload automation and orchestration solution. BMC sells primarily to large enterprises managing complex hybrid IT environments and legacy mainframe infrastructure, typically operating on enterprise-scale contract pricing.

BMC directly competes with ServiceNow in the ITSM space, a segment where ServiceNow has aggressively captured cloud market share over the last decade. In the mainframe systems management domain, BMC's primary competitors are IBM and Broadcom (which acquired CA Technologies in 2018).

BMC maintains a significant R&D center in Tel Aviv (Ramat HaHayal). The Israeli site's origins trace back to BMC's 1999 acquisition of Israeli company New Dimension Software for approximately $650 million. This acquisition brought the core Control-M workload automation technology into BMC's portfolio, and Control-M continues to be developed heavily by the Israeli R&D teams. BMC further expanded its local presence by acquiring Identify Software in 2006 for $150 million and DB-GIL in 2007. The local site employs several hundred engineers focused on workload automation, cloud operations, and enterprise software engineering.
