Airobotics was founded in Israel in 2014 by Ran Krauss and Meir Kliner. Headquartered in Petah Tikva, the company develops fully automated "drone-in-a-box" systems. The single most consequential event for the company in recent years was its acquisition in 2023 by Ondas Holdings (NASDAQ: ONDS), transitioning Airobotics into a wholly owned subsidiary of the American firm.

The company's primary product is the Optimus System, an autonomous drone platform that features a robotic docking station capable of launching, recovering, and swapping batteries for drones without human intervention. The system is utilized by industrial facilities, mining operators, seaports, and municipalities (including a high-profile deployment with the Dubai Police) for perimeter security, surveillance, and aerial data mapping.

Airobotics competes in the autonomous aerial data and drone-in-a-box sector alongside direct competitors such as Israeli-founded Percepto and US-based Skydio. A key regulatory and technical moat was established in 2023 when Airobotics received an FAA Type Certificate for its Optimus-1EX system, allowing the company to operate autonomous flights over people and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in complex US airspace.

The company's headquarters, primary R&D center, and hardware manufacturing facilities are located in Petah Tikva. Following the Ondas acquisition, Airobotics integrated its operations with American Robotics, another Ondas subsidiary, though the core engineering and development teams remain anchored in Israel.
